Blue Cross Blue Shield Health Insurance - A Personal View
Health care today is a multi-million dollar business and, like most businesses, the owners' principal concern is to make money. Blue Cross Blue Shield is no exception to this rule. This article gives one contributing writer's view.
I have been using Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance for several years now and have some really mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand, Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance is a fairly cheap alternative to many of the other health care providers but, on the other hand, it is also a pretty lousy form of health insurance.
Sure, the cost for Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance is reasonably low, but the downside is that it takes for ever to get the care you need. It can take weeks to get an appointment and, once you've managed to see a doctor, it can then take months to get the referral to the necessary specialist. Personally, if I could afford one of the premium health care providers, I would quit Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance today.
Of course, most of the health care providers out there are pretty bad. Whether they are HMOs, PPOs, or any other kind of health care provider, they all have their problems and, when it comes to the bottom line, they are really only out there to make money.
Like any other business, they will maximize their profits while providing the minimum level of care that they can get away with to patients. When you use Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance you have an advantage over those people who have to pay more, but the fact is that it is not really a solution to our nation's health care problems. Besides, Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance is nothing like as good as Medicare or Medicaid in terms of prices.
The only thing that will really make things better in the long run is to have a system of single payer health care. Unlike Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, or any other health care provider, having single payer means that everyone is insured.
In countries where everyone pays into a central health system, every single person, regardless of whether they have money or not, is sure to get their needs met. There will be no more families, or kids, without insurance, which results in years of problems when someone gets sick. It is really the very best solution that there is for health care.
Until we have a single payer health care system many Americans will have to continue to live in fear of getting sick, knowing that it will put a tremendous strain on their ability to ever make ends meet again. For now, though, I guess I'll stick with Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance.
As with anything in life there is always a range of views on offer and this article offers just one perspective. Perhaps this is just the reflection of someone who has had a bad experience of the company or maybe there's more of a political message here. You'll need to make your own judgment on this one. At the end of the day Blur Cross Blue Shield is the nation's oldest and largest health care provider and, whatever their faults, they must be doing something right.
